Quick Fact:
The reactor has 2,004 process tubes that hold the fuel elements.The reactor’s core is surrounded two layers: a 10-inch cast thermal shield and a 50-inch thick biological shield. These protective layers blocked 97 percent of the gamma radiation from the core.
