Edgar Sengier (1879 – 1963) was the director of Union Miniere du Haut Katanga. After being warned by British scientists regarding the potential danger were the uranium ore to fall into the wrong hands, Sengier decided to transport half the uranium stockpile from the Congo to the United States in 1940.
Joan Hinton (1921-2010) was an American physicist who later defected to China. Hinton was born into a precocious family.
Raymond P. Biel served as a second lieutenant in the 393rd Bombardment Squadron. He was the co-pilot of the B-29 Full House, which served as a weather reconnaissance plane on the Hiroshima bombing mission, and the backup strike plane on Iwo Jima on the Nagasaki mission.
