Alan E. Florin was a research associate in the Chemistry Division of the University of Chicago’s Metallurgical Laboratory during the Manhattan Project.

He worked in Group 6 – Basic Wet Chemistry in Sub-Section II – Basic Chemistry and Service Section of the Chemistry Division. As a member of Glenn Seaborg’s Chemistry Division, he worked with plutonium and other heavy metals.

Alan Florin married Kathleen “Kay” Gavin, the supervisor of the Nonacademic Service Group at the Met Lab, in August 1944. Later, they both moved to New Mexico and worked at Los Alamos National Laboratory.
