Ernest Mekanas was a member of the Provisional Engineering Detachment at Los Alamos. Mekanas was in Los Alamos from 1943 to 1945, working primarily at the post office.
Gerald F. Clapso served as a sergeant in the 393rd Bombardment Squadron. He was the radar operator regularly assigned first to Luke the Spook and later to Big Stink.
Hoylande Young Failey was a senior chemist at the University of Chicago’s Metallurgical Laboratory (“Met Lab”) during the Manhattan Project.
Monsignor William Sweeney studied for the priesthood in Worcester, Massachusetts, and came to Washington state in 1938.
