National Museum of Nuclear Science & History

William Sturm (1918-1999) was an American physicist.

William Sturm was a graduate student at the University of Chicago when he was recruited to the Manhattan Project. He worked alongside Enrico Fermi and helped to build Chicago Pile-1, the first nuclear reactor. Sturm continued to work on the Manhattan Project after the reactor was completed.

After the war, Sturm worked as a nuclear physicist at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory until 1956. He then moved to the Argonne where he served as the assistant director of applied physics until his retirement.
