National Museum of Nuclear Science & History

Mildred (Ginsberg) Goldberger was an American mathematician and economist. 

She was a research assistant and computer at the Metallurgical Laboratory at the University of Chicago during the Manhattan Project. She was one of ten women to sign the Szilard Petition, a document written by physicist Leo Szilard petitioning against the use of the atomic bomb on Japan.

She was married to Marvin “Murph” Goldberger, a physicist who taught at Princeton during J. Robert Oppenheimer’s tenure as Director of the Institute for Advanced Study. The Goldbergers would eventually become President and First Lady of CalTech.
