William Bowland

William Augustus Bowland was born on July 22, 1913, at Pocomoke City, Maryland. He attended Strayer's Business College in Baltimore, Maryland, for three years. From 1938 to 1942 he worked at Seaboard Iron and Steel Company in Baltimore. Bowland was inducted into the United States Army on May 20, 1942. He attended the Adjutant General School at the University of Mississippi and then served in the Special Engineer Detachment, Oak Ridge, Tennessee. On November 21, 1942, Bowland was promoted to technician grade 5 . He was promoted to first sergeant on December 3, 1945. Bowland was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army as a first sergeant, Special Engineer Detachment, on February 7, 1946. He passed away on July 1, 2008.
