During WWII, Robert Goodell was a member of the Special Engineer Detachment (SED) and worked as the Technical Supervisor at the Y-12 Plant at Oak Ridge, TN. Before working at Oak Ridge, Goodell received his degree in Electrical Engineering from Alfred University. In 1946, Goodell participated in Operation Crossroads, the nuclear weapons tests conducted at Bikini Atoll.
