The Y-12 Plant in Oak Ridge, Tennessee

Edward Long supervised the calutron in the Y-12 Plant at Oak Ridge beginning in 1944. Long received a B.S. in Physics from the Unviersity of Georgia prior to the war, and became a supervisor at Y-12. He supervised a number of young operators, including many women, in the operation of the calutron. After the war, Long returned to the University of Georgia for a M.S. in Physics, before going back to Oak Ridge as a programmer and analyst.
