Walter Horne worked on the Manhattan Project as a chemist at the Y-12 Plant in Oak Ridge Tennesee from 1943 to 1945. He stayed on at Oak Ridge for four years after the war, working in Research & Development for the Nuclear Fuel Rod Recovery Program, but left after suffering radiation sickness from overexposure.
