Mary Michel Lowe arrived at Oak Ridge in 1944, where she worked in the teletype office at Jackson Square. When she learned that typists were needed at K-25, Lowe transferred to the plant and moved to a dormitory in Oak Ridge. Later, Lowe helped withdraw samples of uranium from large furnaces so that they could be analyzed in the laboratory. After the war, Lowe remained in Oak Ridge, where she met her husband and got married.
