Provisional Engineer Detachment

Lyda Speck served in the Women’s Army Corps at Los Alamos during the Manhattan Project. She later remembered “how tight the security was. It was always referred to as a ‘gadget’ by all the scientists and everybody else. I never heard anyone mention that it was a bomb.”
