Andrew Stehney was a research assistant at the Metallurgical Laboratory in Chicago during the Manhattan Project.

After the war, Stehney worked at Argonne. He received a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago in 1950. In 1980, he conducted a study that showed that cancer rates at the Argonne plant were above normal.
