National Museum of Nuclear Science & History

Anne McKusick was born in Rochester, New York, and in April of 1944 went to work for the Tennessee-Eastman Company in Oak Ridge, at the Y-12 Plant. She worked on Uranium purification, separating U-235 from U-238.

After the war, she considered studying physics, before ultimately going into medicine. Dr. McKusick became a rheumatologist and an assistant professor of medicine at Johns Hopkins University.
