August “Gus” Knuth was a millwright and carpenter who helped construct Chicago Pile-1. He was present on December 2, 1942 when the pile went critical in the first self-sustaining chain reaction in history.
When Colleen Black’s brother was drafted into the Army in 1942, she and her family decided to move to Oak Ridge to contribute to the war effort and bring her brother home.
Robert Parks worked for the United States Engineer District Office.
