Nannilee Saunders set up the elementary at Los Alamos, NM, during the Manhattan Project. She began to work at Los Alamos in August 1943, working for 11 months while on a leave of absence from a college in Chicago.
William S. Johnston was a research assistant at the University of Chicago’s Metallurgical Laboratory (“Met Lab”) during the Manhattan Project.
Benjamin Bederson, a New York native, was selected to serve in the Special Engineering Detachment during the Manhattan Project.
John Ruhoff worked for the United States Engineer District Office.
