Elaine (Lewitz) Novey was a laboratory assistant and technician in the Chemistry Division at the University of Chicago Met Lab and Oak Ridge.

Prior to working on the Manhattan Project, she studied at the University of Chicago, Central Y.M.C.A. college and the Chicago Conservatory of Music. She was married to physicist Theodore B. Novey.
