National Museum of Nuclear Science & History

Professor Floyd Owen Slate (1920-2008) worked on the Manhattan Project at Decatur, IL and at Columbia University. He was recruited as a PhD chemist from Purdue University.

His career included years 1949 – 1987 (when he retired, Emeritus) from Cornell University. Previous to his professorship at Cornell, he did research and teaching at Purdue University.

Raymond P. Biel

Hiroshima Mission

Raymond P. Biel served as a second lieutenant in the 393rd Bombardment Squadron. He was the co-pilot of the B-29 Full House, which served as a weather reconnaissance plane on the Hiroshima bombing mission, and the backup strike plane on Iwo Jima on the Nagasaki mission.
