James R. Corliss served as a technical sergeant in the 393rd Bombardment Squadron. He was regularly assigned to work as a flight engineer on the Up An’ Atom but did not fly in that plane during the August 1945 bombing missions on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
Howard Gest worked for Clinton Laboratories at the X-10 Reactor. Gest was one of the scientists who signed Leo Szilard’s petition against the use of the atomic bomb.
Duane Sewell began working with the Manhattan Project in 1941. He was one of the first people to arrive at Oak Ridge and experienced first-hand some of the difficulties there with cyclotrons and isotope separation.
