George Feinberg was born to immigrant parents in Detroit on September 22, 1916. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry at Wayne University. He was then sent by the Army to Ann Arbor to earn a Masters in Chemical Engineering at the University of Michigan and then began to work at Oak Ridge. There he married his wife, Sylvia Brown Feinberg in 1943.
