George R. Carlson was a research associate at the University of Chicago’s Metallurgical Laboratory (“Met Lab”) during the Manhattan Project.
On July 12, 1945 in Eckhart Hall, Carlson appeared before a committee consisting of John Simpson from the Physics Division, Robert J. Maurer from Argonne National Laboratory, Austin M. Brues from the Health Division, Arthur H. Jaffey from the Chemistry Division, and Farrington Daniels. Carlson and other academic personnel were interviewed about their views on social implications of atomic weapons.
