After graduating Washington State University in 1950, Carl Higby was recruited to work at Hanford as an operations supervisor for the reactors.
Isabel Torres worked at the Los Alamos laboratory during and after the Manhattan Project. She commuted from the neighboring community of Santa Cruz, first by truck, then by bus.
Allred worked as a chemical operator at the Y-12 plant at Oak Ridge during the Manhattan Project. While at Oak Ridge, she was nominated as a contestant in the “Miss Atomic Bomb” beauty pageant.
