Jean Dow Bacher was born in 1907, and grew up in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She married fellow Ann Arbor native and leading Manhattan Project scientist Robert Bacher in 1930.
Ralph R. Taylor, Jr. served as a major in the 393rd Bombardment Squadron. He was the commander of the B-29 Full House, which served as a weather reconnaissance plane on the Hiroshima bombing mission, and the backup strike plane on Iwo Jima on the Nagasaki mission.
Lise Meitner (1878-1968) was an Austrian physicist. Meitner was part of the team that discovered and explained nuclear fission and foresaw its explosive potential.
