Jacob W. Cox was born in Pittsburgh PA. on September 27, 1913. He graduated from Carnegie Institute of Technology on June 8, 1936 with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. After the outbreak of World War 2, he enlisted in the United States Navy and obtained the rank of Lieutenant (j.g.). While in the Navy, Jake was assigned to work on the Manhattan Project and was stationed in Oak Ridge Tennessee. After the conclusion of World War 2, Jake married Mary Esther Humphreys. The couple had two children, Judy and Frank. Following his honorable discharge, Mr Cox returned to work for the United States Steel Corporation where he worked for his entire career. He held numerous executive positions, eventually rising to General Superintendent. He was in charge of steel plants in Waukegan and Joliet Illinois and finally Duluth MN.
He retired from U.S. Steel in 1968. He died from complications of a stroke on May 6, 1969. He was 55 years old.
