Mary P. Frankel was one of the “human computers” at Los Alamos during the Manhattan Project. In the spring of 1943, Frankel and her husband, Stan, an American physicist who later became a computer scientist, arrived at Los Alamos.
Carolyn Beatrice Parker was born in Gainesville in 1917, during the Jim Crow era. Her father, Dr. Julius A.
Served with the 216th AAF Base Unit at Wendover Airfield and at Los Alamos between May and December of 1945.
Newton Stapleton was born in southern Georgia. He was a lawyer by training. Before the war, he worked for the FBI.
