In 1942, James E. Fix, was a 16-year-old freshman at Texas A&M University. Fix was drafted into the Army, and, after basic training, twenty men in his unit were chosen for the Army Specialized Training Program (ASTP).
A. D. Lawrence worked for the Roane-Anderson Company.
W. W. McQuerry worked for the Union Carbide & Carbon Corporation.
James Van Pelt served as a captain in the 393rd Bombardment Squadron of the 509th Composite Group. He flew in the Great Artiste as a navigator during the mission to bomb Hiroshima.
