James Van Pelt served as a captain in the 393rd Bombardment Squadron of the 509th Composite Group. He flew in the Great Artiste as a navigator during the mission to bomb Hiroshima.

Julia Wynne was a chemist in the Y-12 Plant in Oak Ridge, Tennessee from June 1944 through the end of the war.
