Manuel Schwartz was a physicist. He worked at Los Alamos as a civilian employee from about July 6, 1944, until January or February 1946. He was principally a member of the theoretical group. He also worked for Dr. Kenneth Greisen’s group, where he did some computational work. His wife, Ethel Schwartz, worked in the office until becoming pregnant with their son, Joel.
He was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on December 28, 1917. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Manitoba, a Master’s degree from the University of Chicago, and a doctorate from the Illinois Institute of Technology. He was a professor at the University of Louisville for many years. He passed away on June 6, 2005.
