Marion Van Gemert was born in Wisconsin. She received her bachelor’s degree in home economics from Stout State College. In 1941, she married Robert Van Gemert. Soon thereafter they moved to Los Alamos, where Robert worked in procurement for the Manhattan Project. Marion taught home economics in Los Alamos for many years.
