Martha Zukas was a nurse at Oak Ridge and Los Alamos during the Manhattan Project.

One of nine children, Zukas grew up in Ellwood City, PA. During the Manhattan Project, she moved with her husband Eugene Zukas to Oak Ridge, and then Los Alamos. She worked as a nurse at Oak Ridge Hospital and the Army hospital at Los Alamos.

After the war, Zukas served as head nurse at Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh. When Eugene joined Los Alamos National Laboratory in 1952, she returned to Los Alamos and worked as a nurse there for many years. She passed away in 2015 at the age of 94.
