Paula Bruggemann was born in 1940 in the agricultural community of White Bluffs, Washington. Their father owned a prosperous fruit farm along the Columbia River before the U.S. government forced the family, including Paula and her brother Ludwig Bruggemann, to relocate in 1943 to make way for construction of the Hanford Site.
