James Van Pelt served as a captain in the 393rd Bombardment Squadron of the 509th Composite Group. He flew in the Great Artiste as a navigator during the mission to bomb Hiroshima.
V. Alexander Nedzel was a research assistant at the University of Chicago Met Lab. After the Manhattan Project, he worked at the Institute for Nuclear Studies and was head of the Aerospace Division at MIT Lincoln Laboratory.
William E. Smith served as a corporal in the 393rd Bombardment Squadron. He was a member of the ground crew regularly assigned to the B-29 Straight Flush.
