Richard Baker was born in Fayette, IA in 1915. He attended public schools in Fayette and received a B.A. from Upper Iowa Univ. and a B.S. degree from Iowa State in 1938. He was employed by Curtis Co. in Clinton, IA from 1938 to 40, before moving to DuPont Cellophane (Construction) in 1940. He was at the Indiana Ordnance from 1940 to 1941, the Alabama Ordnance from 1941 to 1942, and the Gopher Ordnance, MN from 1942 to 1943. He was then transferred to Hanford in May 1943 as office supervisor for construction). In 1945 he was transferred from construction to operations. Baker retired as a project engineer in June 1977.
