Samuel Goudsmit (1902-1978) was a Dutch-American physicist. In May 1944, Goudsmit became scientific director of the Manhattan Project’s Alsos Mission, a top-secret operation responsible for gathering intelligence on Germany’s atomic program.
Dr. Lewis Preston arrived in Oak Ridge in 1944. A recent graduate of the Baylor University College of Medicine, he joined the Army Medical Corps.
Harper Welton was a staff worker at Los Alamos during the Manhattan Project.
Robert B. Behr served in the 509th Headquarters and Base Services Squadron.
