Jack Hefner joined the Manhattan Project at Oak Ridge in 1943. Hefner was a reactor engineer and helped supervise the construction of the X-10 Graphite Reactor.
Rose Bethe and her husband, Nobel Prize winner Hans Bethe, moved to Los Alamos in early 1943 when Hans was appointed leader of the Theoretical Division for the Manhattan Project.
Sherman D. Kaplan was a laboratory helper at the University of Chicago’s Metallurgical Laboratory (“Met Lab”) during the Manhattan Project.
