William Crum was born on September 4, 1925, in Hancock County, IL. He was the seventh of eight siblings who grew up on a farm in Western Illinois near the Mississippi River.
Jacob Y. Bontekoe served as 2nd lieutenant in the 393rd Bombardment Squadron. He was regularly assigned to the B-29 Top Secret.
Busch worked at the 200 West Area at Hanford during the Manhattan Project.
