Van Reid worked for the United States Engineer District Office. He was in charge of housing layout in the early history of Oak Ridge and had nearly 10 years of service.

Oak Ridge Journal from January 4th, 1945. Col. Kenneth D. Nichols, District Engineer, received official commendation and praise for the “faithful performance of duty” and awarded citations in recognition for the completion of “faithful and satisfactory service rendered to the War Department and to the Nation.”

Louis Bernard Werner was an American chemist. Werner received a B.S. from the University of Idaho, and was working on his doctorate at the Univeristy of Chicago at Berkeley when he was recruited to work on the Manhattan Project at the Chicago Met Lab.
