Nicholas Constantine Metropolis was born on June 11th, 1915, in Chicago. In 1936 he received his bachelor’s degree, and in 1941, his doctorate, both from the University of Chicago, and both in experimental physics.
Owens worked as a “Calutron Girl” at the Y-12 plant at Oak Ridge during the Manhattan Project.
