William B. Holton

William Bultman Holton was Chairman of the Chemistry Department at American University in 1938.  He held a PhD in Rare Earth Chemistry from the University of Illinois.

Dr. Holton joined the Manhattan Project at the Office of Scientific Research & Development. He began work on the atomic bomb at the National Bureau of Standards in Washington, DC. Later his office was in the temporary buildings on the Washington Mall. During the war, he made frequent trips of Los Alamos. Oak Ridge, and Hanford. 

He continued to serve the government through the Atomic Energy Commission and later the Department of Energy as technical expert in the patent division. During the Truman administration, he was technical consultant to President Truman with frequent calls from the White House to his home in Chevy Chase, MD.
