Haskell Sheinberg arrived at Los Alamos in late 1944 as part of the Special Engineer Detachment. Sheinberg’s first assignment was to purify plutonium under the direction of Arthur Wahl, one of the co-discoverers of plutonium.
John Douglas Cockcroft was a British physicist and recipient of the 1951 Nobel Prize in Physics. He was a member of the Tizard Mission to the United States in the autumn of 1940.
Howard “Howie” Wilcox was an American physicist. He studied at the University of Minnesota and was a teaching fellow at Harvard when he was recruited to work on the Manhattan Project at Los Alamos.
