Joe Baca was born in Alberquerque, NM. He moved with his family to Los Alamos, NM in April of 1944 after his father, Jose Baca, got a job as a carpenter there. After his graduation from high school in 1955, Joe attended New Mexico State University for a time before working as a furniture mover and a chemical plant operator in Los Alamos.
