In 1942, James E. Fix, was a 16-year-old freshman at Texas A&M University. Fix was drafted into the Army, and, after basic training, twenty men in his unit were chosen for the Army Specialized Training Program (ASTP).

Mary Argo was a physicist at Los Alamos during the Manhattan Project. She and her husband, physicist Harold Argo, were students of Edward Teller.
Nelson Barney Fox was born on February 22, 1916, in Ravenel, South Carolina near Charleston. He was a Chief Fire Controlman on the USS Louisville (CA-28).
