G. Robert Gunther-Mohr joined the Manhattan Project in 1944. Mohr worked on the top secret polonium trigger being developed for the plutonium bomb at the Monsanto Chemical Company in Dayton, Ohio.
Irene LaViolette was born in Manhattan in 1920. After she finished kindergarten, her family moved to Greece, where her grandparents lived, due to diminishing economic prospects in the United States.
John L. Downey served as a 2nd lieutenant in the 393rd Bombardment Squadron. He was the bombardier regularly assigned to the Laggin’ Dragon.
