Marilyn Jordan was a laboratory assistant at the Metallurgical Laboratory in Chicago during the Manhattan Project. She worked with a number of other women technicians, such as Addie Saunders, Nellie Jennings, Eleese Bowman, Julia Elaine Freeman, Valda B. Lemke, and Evelyn J. Brown.

She married chemist Henry Hoekstra in August 1944.
